Home Energy Audits

A Home Energy Audit is the first step that you can take on the path toward a more comfortable, energy saving, and healthier home. We use a variety of high tech, state-of-the art equipment that give us the data to identify the areas where your home is wasting energy. We will recommend the most cost-effective improvements that will provide you with maximum comfort, minimize your energy bills, and give you optimize your indoor air quality and building health and safety.

We conduct Home Energy Audits by taking a scientific, comprehensive, whole-house assessment of your home. This is far more investigative than the normal clipboard-type audits offered by many utilities and companies that offer a discounted audit as a means to sell products or services.

Using our whole-house approach, our energy audit uses state-of-the-art equipment to assess the building envelope (all of the components of your home’s outer shell: windows, doors, insulation, and the amount of air leakage between the building materials), all of the combustion equipment (including stoves, furnaces, and water heaters), and the movement of air within your home to make sure that you and your family are breathing fresh, healthy, and safe air.

To perform a Home Energy Audit, we use these methods:

  • Blower Door Test, which depressurizes the house to find “air infiltration” leaks (places where warm air leaks out or cold air enters your home);
  • Infrared Thermography, camera-like device that displays in infrared spectrum and detects minute temperature differences (e.g., around wall outlets, floorboards or door frames);
  • Duct Blaster, which determines whether your ducts are sealed properly;
  • Combustion Analysis, which scientifically analyzes the efficiency of the hot water heater and forced-air furnace (and also determines any safety hazards);
  • Air Flow Meters, which determine if the heating/cooling system and ventilation ducts are moving the correct amount of air to the right areas;
  • Moisture Meters to measure ambient relative humidity or find those moisture problems that are hard to diagnose;
  • Check Insulation Quality and R-Value;
  • Evaluate Window and Door Efficiency;
  • Comprehensive report of findings and improvements that can be made to enhance your home’s energy efficiency and comfort;
  • Detailed, easy-to-read computer-generated energy analysis report is created using specialized software, which calculates “expected” energy consumption based on your Home Energy Audit. It compares those calculations to your individual utility bills to determine what the cost-effective potential is for saving energy and money (and improving comfort) through retrofit measures.

After your energy upgrades are completed, another energy assessment is performed to ensure your home is performing as efficiently as designed and meets your expectations.
